Otis sleeps undercovers in the winter, sometimes in the summer. He doesn't particularly like the ceiling fan over the bed, so if it's on higher than low, he goes under and lays between my legs. I've never worried about hurting him. I agree with the internal "knowing" of making sure I don't squash or kick him.
