I have an old bottle of Foaming Sensitive Ear Cleaner by Animal Dermatology Laboratories that I used on my precious Chester who had the same problem when I rescued him. It may be a yeast infection, which is really difficult to clear up. Anyway, I'm not sure if you can buy it over the counter, you may need to get it from a vet, but I do remember it working very well.
Try not to use Q-tips as that only pushes the "gunk" further into their ear, making the problem worse. The stuff I have you squirt in their ear, massage for 30 seconds and then wipe out the ear with a cotton ball. Most likely, the dog will shake its head, which is good, the inertia causes the stuff to work its way out.
Best of luck to you.
PS - Smell the dog's ears. If it's a sweet smell, I can almost guarantee it's a yeast infection. Make sure your vet gives you something specifically for that and be very diligent about the medications. Again, they can be very difficult to get rid of. |
