Theresa, I did the same thing with the compound and hot pepper. It worked for a good while. But sometimes they just scratch away at dry wall and don't chew it. So, the things we would normally use does not work. I think that an X pen is the best way to keep Yorkies out of trouble when we cannot be right with them. t is what I use and I sometimes have 3-7 dogs to keep safe. They are kept in the X-pens (sometimes if I have a lot of them I connect 2 pens together) in the kitchen and family room. I like to connect the pens instead of separating the dogs unless I have a reason to do so....
