  I believe you would of had similar issues with a min pin.  I believe they are high energy also.  Remember you little guy is a terrier & terriers have energy to burn.  Plus if he's anything like mine he is fiercely independent.  Don't try & force the connection he will come around.  Mine is 2.5 now, & at about 2 he started wanting to be close to me & sleep on my lap, but it had to be on his terms.
