Before I knew any better and was doing research for my soon to be new and first Yorkie. I saw an add on the internet of a Amish Family selling Yorkies. I thought,"how perfect" good moral Amish Ppl and pretty local to me. It was less then an Half hour away. I arrive at the schedule apointment time and we hear barking, lots of barking coming from the barn. Truly at this time I didnt even know of puppy mills. Still even without my knowledge It put a red flag up. The Amish daughter showed me into the back door of their hose and there were four to five Yorkie Pups. The seemed very offish except the much younger. I was so desperate to have one that I almost did it. But this gnawing feeling in my Gut kept on and on. Not to mention.. Its a lot of money to Gamble .. so to speak. My husband and I got our girls together and we prayed and asked for signs for us to see. I was then talking to the Amish Father and of course he was assuring me that he had healthy wonderful puppies ... blah blah blah... My eyes were on the younger one that was smaller... He called her a "Teacup" and wanted much more for her. She was so vibrant and energetic ... I just loved her peronality! I tried to persuade him to drop her price , but he would not budge. He asked me if I ever intended on breeding. I said I didnt know but it may be a thought. He said well you dont want her .. he says she will be to tiny. He told me I would want the other one . This other one was 5 mths old and 5 pounds already. The only reason I was not interested in that one was because she seemd so distant, frightened... Just very odd. But I was considering. My oldest daughter then picked this Puppy up and was looking at it and petting it. She then discovered it had stiches at her belly. I then pointed this out to the Amish Man and questioned him on it. Well here it was, She had a Hernia... Can you believe it.. he was telling me I could breed this dog , not to mention was going to sell her to me without my knowledge. He looked at his daughter and said... I thought you got all those stiches out. Hmmmm, I guess we were not suppose to know .... I asked the Amish man to give me a few with my family as we made our descision. During this time we called our Vet and told him what we were doing where we were at and what we had found... He told us to RUN, RUN as fast we could from that place.. He told me that it was sooooooooo VERY COMMON among the Amish! He said .. do NOT buy from them or any other Amish because chances are you will be a very unhappy dog owner.. I am so thankful for the signs and redflags that were given.
