Oh hun! I feel your pain. Those patterns are sooo confusing for those of us who are beginners. Maybe someone else has some good suggestions here, but I found a simple pattern online. I will see if I can find it again.
Don't give up! Make the blanket at least and learn how to use the machine a little. A little pillow will help boost your confidence. Start slowly, but don't give up.
