Someone suggested using those little finger toothbrushes for the crud around their eyes. The soft plastic ones. I used one a couple of times on Max's eyes and they work really great.....gentle and they don't yank the hair.....try that.
Also, a groomer told me to use Baby shampoo on their face; still try not to get the soap in their eyes, but if you do, at least it doesn't burn their eyes. I've been doing that for a long time and it seems to work. Max's hair is kept short though.
