A pet store can claim anything about where they get their dogs from. And yes there are breeders, not reputable that sell to pet stores but they are not reputable or ethical and don't want to stand behind their puppies or have anyone on their premises.
It is a quick way to get some money and get pups out of their place to make room for more pups coming up.
There is a pet store in my area, a few of them actually that claim they get their pups from 'loving local breeders' not puppymills. I beg to differ with them because if they were loving breeders they would not be dumping them into pet stores for fast buck and no idea where their puppies are going and if the buyer has any idea of how to take care of it or indeed should even have one right now.
Under the rules of the Canadian Kennel Club, these puppies cannot be registered and our CKC rep a few years ago paid a little visit to a pet store claiming to sell CKC registered puppies. They are no longer making that claim as I t could be pursued by the CKC.
It is also against the Code of Ethics of the Canadian Kennel Club for any breeder so sell through a pet store. This is also the case of any breed club in both Canada and the US. |
