Exclamation Help-genetic predisposition/how to screen

What kind of tests should I have done on my yorkies to determine if they have any genetic abnormalities or predispositions? My vet told me about 4 different things yorkies can be prone to and each requires different testing. 1) cataracts? - require testing from an opthamologist. 2) patela problems (knees?) x-rays 3) micro vascular dis... can be determined by a blood test or a liver biopsy 4) problems with their bite - determined by an exam.
Both my male and female had all their well puppy exams, shots and worming on time. At 1 1/2 years they mated and produced a litter of 4 pups. One of the pups had an over-bite. Is this common and how could I have prevented getting this or could I? Neither of my dogs has a bite problem.
