So we just got back from our nightly walk around the neighborhood about an hour or so ago. The husband and I are on the street, my daughter is beside us on the sidewalk. Suddenly, she takes off running, stops 10 feet away and says, "There was a snake on the sidewalk!" And she is RIGHT!

Stretched our along the side of the sidewalk, there is a Cottonmouth, about 1 1/2 feet long! She had stepped just right by it...it could have easily bitten her.

Luckily we happened to be right by some friends' house, so my husband managed to get a shovel and we killed it. There have been several killed in our neighborhood over the past few weeks, and I'm not talking about harmless little garden snakes either.
How scary is that though for her to have been practically on top of it! We usually have our Basset with us. If we'd been walking her, she would have found it and grabbed it no doubt!

I said from now on we are taking our chances and walking in the street!
