I just bathed maggie (see previous post...) and she was running around madly as usual. she always runs and hops in her crate, and then jumps back out....and then back in...and back out. well, it is a mesh crate that unzips in the front and on top. we leave the front zipped and facing the wall and leave the top unzipped so she can get in and out. but when she is in there when we do not want her out, we zip the top up. ok...let me explain...we have to do this because the little huidini knows how to unzip the front, so we basically block her in.
anyway...she was jumping in her crate and started SCREAMING
I jumped up immediately and went to check out what was happening and she had gotten one of her back legs caught in the carrying strap on the crate...then when she realized she was stuck, she started trying to get out and ended up wrapping the strap several times around her leg...in the 5 seconds it took me to get to her!!! my baby...had i not gotten there right away, she could have broken her leg on that thing!!!! i had NEVER thought of anything like that ever happening. i mean...it's a short carrying strap...what could happen??????? it took me close to a full minute just to get it unravelled and in the mean time she is screaming and biting at it. once she realized mommy was helping...she calmed down but it scared the daylights out of her...and me. i am just glad i was able to prevent an injury. the straps are coming off NOW.
she is no longer running around, she is laying right here next to me wrapped up in a blanket. but i have checked her leg and she seems to be fine.
so please be careful of those sorts of things. here is a pic of her crate so you get an idea of what i'm talking about. (the one is from when she was 16 weeks old, the other is of a doggie (bubba) that we were dog sitting...but you can see the side of the crate)
