I have a good friend that has a yorkie with very curly hair. I used to tell her he was a yorkiepoo and sometimes call him "Poodle" (just joking with her)...she actually calls him "Doodle" sometimes because of it as a nickname. When his hair gets kindof long it gets very poofy. She will keep in in a very short cut but lets it get a little out of hand before grooming him again. Some yorkies just have wavy or curly hair - technically by AKC standard it's a fault and not comformationally correct but a yorkie can have curly hair and still be a purebred yorkie. A lot of yorkies don't meet the standard but are still purebred. I see a ton of maltese with curly hair (supposed to be straight)- I can hardly tell now if a dog is actually a maltese or a maltese/poodle mix most of the time. Yorkies can come in all shapes and sizes
