You are right when you say that you have the choice and the "freedom" to let others know about bad products. BUT...you should contact the seller first to rectify the problem before trying to publically ruin their reputation. I believe that's proper moral protocol.
I understand that you were very happy at first, and now you see a hole. Could it be possible that your pup was rough housing with the pillow? I know that I have EXPENSIVE toys that I've gotten for Baby (Sniffany and Company, Drooly and Bark, etc) and that girl can get down and dirty with those toys!
And as always, there are always two sides to a story. Sometimes people get upset with one another over something that happened (that has nothing to do directly with the product) and they get finger happy on the forum. But that's just my honest opinion and 3 cents.
