Wow...a pound is ALOT for these little guys.
I would think maybe the dog has contracted a parasite or something? Or maybe the dog just isn't eating as much as it should...of course, to lose a pound from not eating should be easy to identify, I would think. I've never had any lose that much that fast...but I carefully monitor them, so I'd notice the weight loss waaaay before it got that far.
