Lisa,
Because of your post, ( and I thank you for your concern) I have spent the last few hours researching eclampsia in canines. I have checked the food I am feeding Lexie and it's first ingredient is protein (23% and the recommended is 30%), but Lexie is eating 6 to 8 small meals a day. In all the articles I have read (both by breeders and vets) it says that you can over calcium the bitch and that is just as bad as having low calcuim. After all of that here is my question.
Would you start giving Lexie (small amounts of cottage cheese and milk once a day? (I would watch her stool to make sure she does not get diarrhea)
In another article I read that giving the bitch one "Tums" a day will also help. What do you think? With Yorkies being so small, maybe a half?
It's after 1AM here in sunny Florida, so I will call the vet, and a breeder friend that I have for their option too, but I would like to know what you think. Do one, do both, don't do anything until and if she shows signs?
I really do thank you for your post. Is there anything else I should watch for now , during whelping, or after the puppies are born? I do have vet, vet tech, and emergency hospital all "on call" for our big event. I just am praying we don't need them!!
Thanks again!!
