I generally don't bring them in just for a check-up bc 1) they'll probably go in within that year for something anyway (at which time I can ask them to do whatever else might be needed) and 2) I don't find it all that necessary unless something is wrong.
If all they do is check heart beat/rate, temp, body palpitation, heart worm test, ears etc. - they should do all of those anyway at every appt. (except heart worm).
