We had some of the same issues. Both of mine were virtually 100% trained by 5 months. But after they were neutered at 7 months, Archie decided he would no longer use the pads. If I didn't remind him in time, he would just pee anywhere. Quite maddening when he also would just go near --- but not on --- the pads. It was either outside or anywhere he pleased. Most frustrating was that he would use pads to poop, just not pee.
It took a couple of months to get him back on track. I think he's back now. He hasn't had an accident in the last month or more, and has actually used the pads to pee a couple of times. He still mostly goes outside -- we have a sliding door that is always open during the day so the dogs and cats can go in and out at will.
Sounds like many pups have some backsliding about the same age.
Willie on the other hand has not had a single accident since he was about 4 months old. Same age (they are litter mates) and same house, same training methods (right or wrong) so much can only be attributed to puppy personality I suppose. Or I don't know what --- Archie was much quicker to get basic commands -sit, down etc. It was just the potty training issue with him.
Wish I knew the answer, but I don't. I guess just patience, patience, patience and persistence. |
