I would be very careful when it comes to rehoming the Shepherd. He is very attached to you and is protective of you. He may not be with another family. If they have plenty of room then I would try and put up a gate to keep them from the pool. I have a Shepherd and I know he wouldn't take to another family. He is also very protective of us. Especially of my daughter. I hope things work out for the best.
