You may need to really play with him so he gets all pooped out - then try to get him to sleep in his little crate where he can see you. I didn't use a crate with either of mine but Cheri screamed in her playpen - all she wanted was me to hold her. The second I brought her to sleep with me - she never made another peep.
They do get scared and lonely...once you get into a routine he should get better but while he's a baby - playing with him right before bed should help tire him out so he doesn't cry
I'd feel the same way - I got my 1st yorkie only AFTER I was laid off my job - but now they're super dependent on me so I really didn't do them any favors ...
