My two really didn't have much problem with the neutering. Dropped them off at 7:30 AM and picked them up around noon. The were awake but still a bit groggy. They just sort of dozed the rest of the day. I did give them 1 dose of the pain meds mid afternoon but they didn't seem to need it after that.
They had e collars that I kept on them for the rest of the day but took them off at night. Actually Archie had to wear the collar the week before after his eye injury and he had already figured how to get it off himself.
I tried the onesie thing but they could wiggle out of them. So I just corrected the first few times I caught them licking and they pretty much stopped trying after the next day. They didn't have sutures - just surgical glue.
I've read that some vets give something you can put on the incision to deter licking, but I didn't ask about it at the time. You might want to check with your vet about that.
My vet advised limiting food and water the rest of that day, but neither of mine had any stomach issues and were back to their usual appetite by that evening. Some dogs do have some stomach problems after anesthesia, so you may want to check with your vet for advise if your pup is sensitive.
Really, he should be just fine. Another of those things that in some ways is almost as hard on us. |
