If it really stresses him out that much, then don't do it. If he's awake enough and your vet thinks it is okay for him to be in his carseat do that. Or have someone ride in your car with you and hold him. Just make sure he's secure because he's probably going to still be pretty out of it. He's probably going to be kindof nausious (spelling?) as well from the anaesthesia so he may get sick in the car so just be prepared in case he does.
