yep, tell him to sit first. (also have leash and collar/harness on) and put the treat in front of his nose and at the same time, pull the leash gently down, following the treat. As soon as he's laying down, make sure he stays there, then he gets the treat and lots of praise.
To teach stay, you get them to sit or down, then place your hand in front of their face and tell them stay. If they move, you tell them 'no, stay' and put them back into their original position. Also a gentle tug on the leash helps. Once they stay (just a few seconds the first time) give them a treat in their position and lots of praise. |
