When my two were little I used a small comb on their hair and then switched to a larger comb when their hair started getting longer. I found the comb kept them from getting matted whereas the brush tended to just gloss over their hair and they'd mat underneath.
As for their teeth, I started with the finger brush because it was small and helped them get used to me being in their mouths. Later I switched to a small toothbrush. I use the pet toothpaste that's flavored. I also use PetzLife oral gel at least once a week.
