buuut i don't want to take chances so I am gonna stick to innova, its been good to us so far.

hey and since your from TW do you know where I can find these brands (solid gold and innova) of food here? I didn't know solid golld was good for skin problems .. i would be really interested in finding out if its available in tw.
It would be much easier to be able to buy it here rather than buying it in America and bringing it back with me on my trips. lol.

I have no idea if they sell solid gold or innova in Taiwan. Even in US, they don't sell those 2 brands in petsmart and petsco. I've seen solid gold dog food in the organic supermarket called Wild Oats. I hope you guys have that in CA. Solid Golds famous product in TW is "Seameal Powder". I believe they sell it in yahoo.tw auction.

About that Avoderm dog food, I emailed to Avoderm company to ask them why they put avocados in dog food since it is bad for animals. Below is a email they reply me today. They explain that there're some many different kinds of avocados. The one they put in their dog food doesn't contain "persin" which is toxic.

A email from Avoderm company:

"Dear: Vivian

Thank you for taking a moment out of your day to contact us here at breeder's choice, please rest assured that our formulas are safe and have been very successful in providing optimal nutrition and excellent results. These articles are very misleading and the one you have forwarded is flat out in accurate, thank you for providing the link.

Breeder's Choice has manufactured AvoDerm for more than 25 years. Millions of pets have eaten our food worldwide over the years and we have never witnessed any negative reaction from the avocado in dogs or cats. Breeder's Choice is a company of integrity that would not produce or continue to produce a food that would cause harm.

The source of avocados in our AvoDerm foods is from California and is a safe fruit. Guatemalan avocados are not used in our foods due to the potential for persin toxicity.

Each AvoDerm formula includes avocado oil and meal. The avocado is full of vitamins A, C, D, E and B6. Avocados are also rich in potassium, niacin,
essential fatty acids and many other nutrients essential to good skin and coat
health. Avocados have zero cholesterol, very little sodium, and are high in
monounsaturated fats, the same kind found in olive oil.

We are well aware of the warnings circulating on the Internet and in the media, much of which is misleading especially as it applies to AvoDerm. We, at Breeder's Choice, are certainly willing to contact the sources supplying the information and discuss the safety of avocados in our pet foods.

The following is from Dr. Guy Witney, Director of Industry Affairs of the
California Avocado Commission:

"In spite of the very occasional and almost always indirect reports of avocado toxicity to dogs and cats there is a huge body of evidence to the contrary.

There are several pet food formulations containing avocado on the market and these are being fed to hundreds of thousands of dogs every day worldwide with no reported problems. Also, in California there are around 7,000 family farmers who grow avocados and almost every one has dogs that actively seek out fruit that has fallen from the trees to snack on. The happy, well-filled out and shiny-coated orchard dog is a familiar sight to anyone in this industry and we have NEVER had a report of a family orchard dog getting sick from eating avocados. Also, the US Forest Service and UC Santa Barbara are about to publish a paper on the importance of avocado orchards in California to sustaining carnivore populations (bears, coyotes, mountain lions, foxes and small cats) during drought conditions. All of these animals are known to eat the protein and nutrient rich fruit that has fallen from trees.

Now birds are a different creature and it IS known that avocados are toxic to birds. Avocado leaves are known to be toxic to horses. Avocado seeds (pits) are NOT edible and are toxic to animals."

After reading this email, I feel OK to keep feeding my dogs Avoderm. Avoderm truly changes my yorkie's skin from dry/flaky to normal skin. My yorkie has less scratchs since I feed him Avoderm. By the way~ I've heard that Eukanuba made a new dog food just for yorkshire terrier. I might buy a bag and try it. I have 2 yorkies and 3 toy poodles. I've tried so many different brands of dog food. Every brand has its pro and con. A brand of dog food is good for one dog doesn't mean it is good for the other dog. Finding your dog a proper food is very important, but it is not easy.
