The best thing to do is quit trying to detangle every night, you're gonna make her hate her grooming.
Go online and google for Isinis Brush.
Bathe the puppy, with what every shampoo and conditioner you use, follow up with Emu or Almond Oil 1 cap in 1 or 2 cups of warm water. Now while puppy is in your arms, blow dry and use the Isinis brush to gently brush out the mats. If you have an extra difficult one, use a very small slicker brush, using the side of the slicker gently work at the mat, try not to pull.
I don't brush daily, I bathe every 4 days and only brush when drying. I know it'll be tough not to do, but you are over working the coat and can do more damage. |
Well, I tried Mardelins Suggestions on my Puppy Stormy.
I must say that I see an improvement in getting those nasty tangles out.
It's gotta be the Oil & I left the Conditioner in for 10 minutes instead of washing it out right away - smoother hair on all 4 of my Yorkies.
I didn't have the Almond Oil Yet, but used my Plush Puppy Seabreeze Oil.
Works Great!!!
My Isinis Brush on order, used a vent brush & metal comb for now.
She looks a little Oily right now, But that will dry out by tomorrow.
If it helps with those nasty puppy tangles - I'm willing to see her a little oily.
Her hair now lays down better instead of sticking out all over the place.
I will definatly try no to comb or brush until next bath this weekend.
I have 4 yorkies with 4 different coat types & this method seems to be working tremedously better!!! I did not use the oil on the others just the puppy. I Did use a detangler to comb out while wet.
I have:
one 11 mth old silky coat
one 22 mth old combination wirey coat (hair breaks easily & grows slowly)
one 2 yr old combination silky coat
one 16 wk old hairy puppy with tangles every day.
I would like to thank Mardelin for her suggestions, she is a great asset to this Forum!!!
