Breakaways are usually for cats - but lots of small dog owners get them too. The collars are made to "break away" if they get caught on something - so the animal doesn't choke.
Granted, our guys don't weigh much so it's hard to say if they'd "unhook" as they should - but hopefully they'd work as designed.
