My 2 pupster's love the blow dryer and will actually lay down on the backs , spread eagle. Mia will even fall asleep while I dry and brush her out. I keep the dryer moving so they don't get too much heat beacause I worry about burning them as well. I have had many dogs and the way I always get mine accustomed to the dryer is to allow them to follow me into the restroom each morning while I'm getting ready for work(you know how they are like little shadows anyway). I shut the restroom door so they can't get out and they watch me put my makeup on and then I start blowing my hair dry, after a few days of doing this they are use to the sound of the dryer and then ever so often I would just kind of aim the dryer in their direction so they could feel the warm air they seem not so freaked out by the noise and the sensation of hot air blowing on them. Just has always seemed to work for me. I had a sheltie a few years ago that every morning insisted I blow his dry hair after I finished with my hair. Wet or dry, he loved the blow dryer.
