I finally got a large square baby playpen and put a plastic underbed storage box that measured 18" x 36" in the playpen on one side. In the plastic box I wrapped a towel around a new heating pad on one side of the box and secured it with diaper pins underneath, the other side was also secured with diaper pins. The heating pad has to be the new ones that have intermittent heat and a very low setting. (a hot water bottle will work also) If Mom got too hot she could move to the other side. She could also jump out of the box and use a wee pad or eat and drink. She felt more secure and that worked for her. Good Luck! Be careful because young pups can get too cold away from Mom for a long time. |
I do the exact same thing. I just put the heating pad under the storage box though. It works great and mom can get away from pups and still be there to watch them also. Only problem is when they want out and they keep jumping up and down to get out and they dont seem to care if they are jumpin on the puppies when they are doing it. I lost a tiny puppy and I think that is what happened to it.
