I don't have this type of experience with my yorkie, but I used to have a MinPin named Mojo. And Mojo was a super hunter/rodent killer! She was so fast, she could catch mice, birds, small gophers, you name it! I don't know where she would get these little guys sometimes. I think she was part cat somewhere cuz she would bring them back to me! She was about 8-9 lbs of solid muscle!
Most of the time she would not "tear" her prey up too much. I would always check to see if she punctured her kill or not. She was up to date on all her shots and I never had a problem. Although I tried very hard to prevent these incidents, if they came into our yard, they were fair game!!
If you ever catch them in the act, I recommend not trying to tear the kill from their mouths. I splashed mojo with a water hose once to get her to drop a mouse. They less contact with the rodent, the better.
