Dewclaw removal is very difficult unless you know how and have seen it done. I was a vet tech and use to do this myself on my own pups in the past. You need someone to assist, since it should not be done by yourself. If you do not get enough of the dewclaw removed it can grow back and too much you can damage their paw/leg. I do not do them myself anymore, since I need reading glasses. Let your vet show you is the best way. The vet will also be able to cauterize them when s/he does each one. Very low amount if any blood then is lost. I use to use Quick-Stop when I removed them myself. Alum can also work, but takes a little longer to work and always add pressure if doing them yourself. And this is without saying always make sure to clean the area and sterilize your equipment first. But I would just pay the vet and have a safer feeling that it was done.
