Not true at all. It really depends on what you want to do. If you want to grow coat, you don't trim at all except ear tips and shave top third or so, trim around the bum so poo doesnt get stuck and around the feet. If a male trim tummy in front of the penis.
If you want a medium length coat just let it grow to that.
IF it is a soft or cotton coat, might as well trim it as it will be a matted mess all the time pretty much.
