I have two Bichons, ages 10 and 8, and they are both like that and have been all their lives. They do go off on their own and play or nap, but they still want to be near me, on my lap when I sit down, next to me when I'm at the table (although they aren't allowed to beg), and definitely next to me when I'm in the bathroom or with their noses at the door if I make them stay outside. They would go into the shower with me if I'd let them and have their little black noses stuck in everything I do. They look in the frig when I open it and into every cabinet I open and want to see any bag or box. They are both next to me right now in their snuggle beds. I wouldn't have them any other way.
