Teething? Aggressive biting? HELP!!! Please help me asap! We got our male yorkie from a breeder when he was 12weeks old. He is sooo smart and has an incredible personality! But lately it's almost like he's gone schzophrenic. He is now 4 months going on 5 (he turned 4 months on June 17th). Last week he started this thing where he would bite our feet then run 100mph around the room and come back for another bite and continue this. At first we didn't think much of it other than he was playing. But this week he seems to be very agitated and hyper (completely opposite of what he's been). His "game" has escalted big time these past couple days. He constantly will snap and bite our feet and do his run around the room. We tried ignoring him by crossing our arms and turning away to ignore but he doesn't even notice and continues to bite us. He begins growling and barking as well. Nothing traumatic that I know of has happened to him. We've treated him extremely well. When he isn't snapping at us, he lets us pet him and pick him up or do whatever, so I don't think he's snapping at us out of fear or hatred.
I've been reading a book and searching online for methods. We tried confining him away from us for a few minutes. We've tried it over and over again and it hasn't taught him a thing.
The last thing I read was to "YELP" when he bites. So we've been doing that. It actually startles him causing him to stop biting for a second and we try to praise at that point. But he seems to be on a constant mission to continue biting at us. But now since we are yelping he will take a stuffed animal and bite that instead for a little while. Before the "yelp" method he wouldn't take anything we shoved in his face, just ignored it and continued to bite us. So we've made progress. I was just on the floor with the stuff animal and he was going WILD biting it, very aggressive biting.
We noticed that he is missing a front tooth and is at the age where his adult teeth should be trying to come in and causing inflamation and pain. I am PRAYING that he is biting because of the pain from his teeth and not because he's going crazy. Has anyone had this experience?? Any advice would be great. Thank you! |
