He's a bit young to tell how he will turn out but there are clues. Study the breed standard, how closely does he conform? What is his line, how much do you know about his parents, grandparents, etc.? Is his pedigree free of genetic defects? See if you can find a puppy match or dog show around. Attend and have a judge or an experienced breeder or handler go over him. It doesn't hurt to check it all out before having him neutered but realize that you will be jointly responsible for any lives that are brought into this world. Make sure that your participation in breeding improves the breed.
