I see lots of ads in the local (Atlanta) paper, as well as the internet, but I am wary of disreputable breeders and sellers.

What do I need to know about a breeder to ensure that it is someone who cares about the breed as well as the individual animal?

I'll appreciate any additional information or advice that members here wish to share.

Thanks!
Check YTCA.org reputable professional breeders. Breeders listed there must follow a code of ethics and conduct. Many potential new yorkie owners are frightend of the cost of obtaining a dog from a show breeder, but believe me you'll be pleasantly surprised. Not to say that cost is the most important thing, health, standard and temperament of a dog as well as your relationship with your breeder. As you are not only buying a dog but a breeder/mentor/friend.
