My wife and I lost our friend and companion of 15 years two years ago. She was a beautiful shepherd-collie mix. Now that all of our kids are grown and out of the house, we are looking for a new friend, and have decided to adopt a yorkie.

I see lots of ads in the local (Atlanta) paper, as well as the internet, but I am wary of disreputable breeders and sellers.

What do I need to know about a breeder to ensure that it is someone who cares about the breed as well as the individual animal?

I'll appreciate any additional information or advice that members here wish to share.
