I free feed mine. With Otis the yorkie it's never been a problem, he doesn't eat much. My shihpoo Oliver on the other hand, is a piggy. It took him awhile after I got him to realize the food will not be taken away from him. He was also very mouthy and grabby when getting a biscuit. He's better now, but it took probably a year before he nicely accepts treats and doesn't feel he needs to gorge the food for fear it will be forever gone if he doesn't eat it. Otis has developed liver issue's so he's on special food now. So now it's the opposite, they are having a lot of trouble with scheduled meal times. I think if you free feed, your baby will eat when hungry. Sounds like you shouldn't have any problems with weight gain.
