We have a cat in the house. And she had been the sole pet for a couple of years when I got my puppy. I had the same concerns. But puppies need to be supervised 24/7 so I was always there to make sure that those claws didn't get my baby. Now, one year later, they are to the point where they stay in the same room. But I haven't ever feared that Razzle (cat) would hurt Gin (furbaby). In fact, now that Gin is a lonely only, she even tries to get Razzle to play, emphasis on try. But they both can and do sit on the back of the loveseat and watch the neighborhood go by...
Welcome to YT. It is a great place, with lots and lots of information. It has been a source of comfort and knowledge for me.
