1. try to establish a routine (for example, take your shower and read for 15 minutes) because this helps your body "recognize" time for sleep.
2. stay away from overstimulation ie: movies, the computer, exercise
3. write down the thoughts that are keeping you awake. my husband's friend will say, 'the commitee was in last night' and we know what he means.
4. tense all the muscles in your body as much as you can, then slowly release them one by one, enjoying the relaxation

5. get out of bed for a few minutes in a dimly lit place (so you don't become truely awake) so you don't worry about what time it is and how badly you want to sleep.

however, if this has been happening alot alot, there are some things to consider--
how old is your mattress?
do you sleep with a wiggly partner of ANY size??
do you snore? it could be you wake yourself!
do you have allergies?

i hope that helps. sweet dreams!
