Cup A couple of suggestions...

If the instructor doesn't want to use an alternate method, maybe a different instructor? We went to a class at Petsmart and they used clicker training. It worked wonderfully.
I also have considered a private class (which would cost more) and it would be geared towards my dogs needs. Is it possible that you could get private classes W/O choke collar?
