That is scary to have a bear in your neighborhood.
The good thing is that it was a black bear and not a grizzly bear. It is very rare for black bears to be aggressive towards humans. They're usually just out looking for food, and will often run away if they come close to people. But I agree, finding one in your own neighborhood is TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT LOL
When we go camping at Sequoia, the black bears come into the campsites sometimes looking for food. Over at the Lodgepole, they aren't as bad, but we stayed at a more rustic camp ground called Dorst a few years back. Now there were some active black bears! I was so afraid at first, but after a while, you discovered if you just called "Bear!" and made some noise with your pans, they'd run off.
They are very pretty too.
