I would think it depends on the size of the dog, or breed also. She had 3 premature... so they were small. If he palpated her abdomen he would have been able to feel them. It may have taken some good feeling around since the owner didn't know. He may not have been very thorough, of course it was a general check up, he didn't know to look specifically for that, he probably just missed it. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt, I hate that this happened to your friend it's heartbreaking.
