Sounds like fun! You might try putting kitty on timed, supervised feedings. Sounds like it would be good because of his weight. I have a cat on a diet and do this to keep harmony with the other 3 and the Yorkie! 1/4 C of diet kibble twice a day. In a short time, Charlie will learn to pig out when food is offered as it will be a long time before the next meal. This will also solve the problem of your Yorkie getting into the kitty's food. The litterbox could be an issue. I find that Gracie will not go near the litter box if the box has a cover on it. She won't go into tight places. She also won't walk on linoleum. My covered litter boxes are in a spare bathroom, so no problem. You will just need to experiment. I might be as easy as putting the entry on the covered box to the back, so it is not in direct view of your dog.
