Question Need help, Introducing a cat

I am writing this quite a bit a head of time before the cat arrives in case i need to do anything ahead of time.
In either September or October, my grandma is going away for a month and we are taking in her cat Charlie. Layla frequently goes over to see Charlie and she just thinks he is the cat's a$$. Charlie is not crazy about Layla but will tolerate her. I am wondering what i need to know in order to make his transition to our house a smooth one. Charlie is an obese cat and will be on a diet while he is here, but how do i keep her from eating his food (Charlie is currently free fed) also how do i keep her out of his litter box. When i leave her home alone with him (it would be for a few hours maybe once a week) do i put Charlie in a different room with the door closed? any suggestions would be great.. i feel SO bad for the cat... Layla is a complete nut around him and i know she stresses him out... thanks in advance.. and here is a picture of them together.. can you see the love
