When I first got my two they didn't wear their collar or their tags very often - same reason as your... BUT then I thought about the horrible thing that would happen if thye got out of the house and they did not have their tags. You can buy silencers for the tags so they don't jingle. I hardly ever hear the tags - they only wear the info tag.
