Default a small crate may be better

We used a soft crate, and this seemed to work fine. I like the idea of a crate, but some people don't like them. My dog uses her crate as a bed now, so it cannot be all that bad...she goes there on her own. This will help her learn to hold her pee, because she won't want to spoil her bed, though she may.. In those cases you have to clean her and the crate, but I found that the exception, not the rule. Also make sure the diet is consistent too. I noticed that if I fed my dog soft food she would have less control than with kibbles as they seem to be more fibrous. My dog sleeps most of the day anyway, so it doesn't matter if she sleeps in her crate or in a blocked off area. The crate lessens her ability to make a mess and trains her to hold her pee longer. The trick is to take them to the pad/paper or outside immediately when you take them out of the crate.
