In the long run, your pup really needs to learn "come" and "sit/stay". Those will solve the problem.

In the meantime, you're going to need to use management to keep him from being able to practice undesirable (and possibly deadly) behavior. Perhaps you can put a gate inside the house so that he is blocked from the door at all times. Or, you can put a baby gate across the front door itself. Not the look you're hoping to achieve, I know, but you gotta keep your pup safe.

Having him drag around a leash at all times is another possibility. Probably won't keep him inside, but it would help make him easier to catch if he does get out.
