Cooking is for the Dogs!

Dogs are part of the family and we love to pamper them. Many HUA directors, volunteers and adopters cook for their dogs. Here are a few of our favorite recipes. We think you will discover that cooking for your dogs is not more expensive than quality dog foods, that your dogs will love it, it is as healthy as quality dogs foods and you will enjoy doing something special for your dog. Each of these recipes will feed two medium sized dogs for a week.

Curry Fritata

2 dozen brown cage free organic eggs

1 lb Ground turkey (organic is best)

1 lb Fresh or Frozen Peas (Cascade organic are best)

16 oz Grated Cheese (our dogs like Italian blend)

1 Tablespoon Turmeric

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

1 16 oz package of egg noodles (whole wheat is best)

1/2 cup of soy milk

Boil water, add pasta and cook until tender, drain water and add olive oil. Break eggs into large mixing bowl, whip with hand mixer, add soy milk and whip again. Brown turkey, add to egg mixture. Add peas cheese and turmeric to egg mixture. Add cooked noodles. Mix all ingredients together. Pour into large rectangular glass baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done in the middle about 45 minutes. Warm before serving. Our dogs love the taste of turmeric and it helps relieve joint inflammation.

Turkey Casserole

2 labs ground turkey (organic is best)

1 container of tofu

2 lbs fresh or frozen peas and carrots (Cascade organic are best)

2 heads broccoli cut into florets

1 16 oz. can cooked sweet potatoes (or buy organic sweet potatoes, boil and dice them yourself)

1/2 cup Olive Oil

2 16 oz. packages of egg noodles (whole wheat is best)

1 tablespoon cropped garlic

Optional: 1 dozen brown cage free organic egg, boiled, peeled, cubed

Brown turkey. Cut tofu into cubes and mix into cooking turkey so that the tofu takes on the flavor of the turkey. Boil water and add noodles. Cook until almost tender and add cut broccoli. Cook until noodles and broccoli are tender. When done, drain water and add olive oil liberally. Add all ingredients into large container. Mix until evenly distributed. Serve warm. You could sprinkle a little cheese on top before serving if you wanted to really spoil your dogs! Some of our dogs don't like the taste of garlic so try it and see if your dogs do or not.
