That's what Gizmo's breeder told us as well, but I read so much about it, I was worried that it would happen.
We free feed also. He always has the Innova Puppy dry available along with fresh water. One tip the breeder gave us was to gradually transition him to city water (which we did). So we didn't have any problems with that.
