luzangela, the dog has to be in a dark room so it's puplis are dilated. The light reflects off the back of the eye and that happens when the flash is directly aimed at the subject.. As Pat said, you can also just go into a low-light situation and shine a bright light directly toward the dog.
Shorty, one of her studs, had chartreuse eyes...he is sooooooo neat!!
